little things
We finally bought a new humidifier. This may not seem like a big deal, but when radiators are the source of heat in your home, you really should never be without one.
We've been without one since we moved. I had forgotten what wonderful little devices they were.
We had an industrial strength one at the old place since it was more like a studio and needed to cover the entire house. I took it apart to clean it and it was just never the same. So, Ted brought me home a new one to see if it would help get rid of a sore throat last weekend.
The new one is SILENT, and oh so cute and small. It sits on the bookshelf and steams away. We both think we slept better with it. I guess it really is the little things that help make life more fun.

spring break
Spring break takes on a whole new meaning when you aren't the student. In the past I've been a teacher, so I got the break too. It was usually very needed. Now as an admin, I've missed having our students around, but it has given me a chance to get some things done that really needed getting done.
The majority of my job is to keep a database in running order and make sure the program that runs it works. It was in pretty bad shape when I came on. And it may not seem like much, but I got the database purged and reconfigured this week. I'm pretty proud of the work I've done. It was also the kind of thing that I needed large amounts of quiet to get done.
Today I started upgrading the entire system. I started a pilot program that would let others be able to use the remote system associated with the database. It will help spread information without corrupting the data. I think the work I've done will help make the entire system work better.
I see this as a huge step forward. Now that the database and system are up to date, I'll be able to spend more time with the students. I may be crazy, but I still fell like I'll do some good.
On other fronts. I need to go get a blood test. I've known I would need to do this for six months. I've had doctor's orders to do it for over a month. I tried the other day and freaked out as soon as I saw the needle. You'd think I would be used to them by now but I'm not.
One of my coworkers told me about a couple things her neurologist did to help her when she hated her blood tests. I think I may ask mine about them. One is a patch that basically numbs the area. Its worth looking into at least.

it takes everyone
Normally it is Ted taking care of me, but this week I got to help Ted.
Thursday we decided to treat ourselves to some salmon kabobs and pilaf for dinner. Unfortunately, Ted grabbed the handle of the pilaf pot without a hot pad while it was still really hot. To keep his hand from blistering he kept it in a dish of iced water most the night. Also luckily for Ted, I didn't hurt him further while I was trying to feed him dinner. I never realized how long our forks were, until I was trying to feed someone else with one...
In the long run, keeping his hand in water for a good 6 hours seems to have paid off. Only one finger is blistering, and it looks like we kept the worst of the burn from sinking too deep in the skin.
I'm also happy I got to be the one that helped. I guess I get pretty silly about needing a bit more help sometimes than he does. I worry too much about not being able to help him when needed.
Also, on other good news. Last night set a record for calmness and quickness of getting me to take my medicine. I guess all the therapy etc. for needle phobia is helping. I still don't like injectable therapy, but at least I'm getting better at taking it. It also doesn't hurt that I rarely have tingling in my foot anymore. I know the medicine is working; I'm not going to stop taking it.

Celebrations!
This was a great week. Unlike last week, when I felt and acted about 13 on the maturity scale, this week was more like the person I think I am. There was minimal crying (only when it came medicine time), no yelling at the husband for no reason at all, and best of it, I even cooked a couple nights of the week. It was nice to feel like I was helping around the house instead of just making the messes. I even started a couple new projects.
I'm crocheting the cutest little dinosaur for one of my coworkers son's.
I finished some ultra cool little people hats.
I talked with one of my coworkers about beading for part of a morning and we may go shopping together sometime.
Also, I went out all by myself to go work cloths shopping last week. While it may sound small, it really is a big deal for me when I go out all by myself on a semi unplanned and wondering tour.
The best part of shopping was I finally found a brand of pants that fits my tiny waste and HUGE hips. Up side, I now own two pairs of pants that are REALLY nice. Down side, unless I find them on crazy huge clearance, I'll never be able to afford them again. Oh well, I'll just have to watch for the really good sales and the trunk shows. I guess that alone is one of the reasons that I really should get out more.
This week Ted came along on the returns trip. I decided a few of the items I bought just needed more alterations that I was willing to make. It ended up a good thing he came along. Apart from getting an unsupervised trip the to the comic store, he found himself a new coat for spring. I made him throw out his old windbreaker/rain jacket when we moved here. It was embarrassing to be seen in public with it. Two years later, we found a coat that he liked, and I was willing to pay the price on the ticket. Yet another REALLY good sale.
And the moral of the story, all of these are reason for celebration. Anymore, it really is the small victories.

the kind of wife I am
My husband needs a haircut. I've been saying this for almost three months. Yet, the part of me that is so afraid I will be one of "those" wives makes it so I don't want to tell him he has to cut it. I'm a bit more forceful about his beard. But when you can do this to your husband, and he doesn't get too mad, well, maybe I can deal with his hair being the same length as mine.
