I am suffering from unfinished object-itis.
I have quite a few knits started. Really cute stuff. But all are too big for all the kids I know, and too small for me. I'm not sure why I started them. I had the yarn. I found a cute pattern. Oh well. Maybe I can finish them and sell them this winter. Mostly sweaters.
I still have 10 -15 necklaces almost finished. I was waiting for some of the last pieces to arrive. They now need photography. Then posting.
I really want to make myself a new set of earrings, but I don't know what kind of wire to use. I have pearls. Maybe I'll use some of the gold. It won't work for necklaces, wrong consistency. Needs more thought.
I have so many baby shower gifts to finish, and can't come up with any cute boy things. Too bad all but one of my friends are having boys. This may be the reason that I have so many cute unfinished knit projects. At least Tara (one of my friends little girls who was born last month) will have plenty of cute things next fall.
The crazy thing, is I really want to finish something.

I think it is real
On May 1, I will be a new Assistant Director at CLS. I will still be in my same dept, and keep my big database project, but other than that, I will have all new responsibilities. It is a huge and very exciting step.
I was offered the position a few weeks ago, and said yes, but it wasn't totally clear what that would mean, or what my responsibilities would be. (We were reorganizing the dept to function with one less person, so it was all fuzzy.) The job while offered/accepted was still tentative.
Today I was told to order cards, so I guess this is telling me that the position is official, and so is my switch. In some strange way, I feel like all the ducks lined up and I actually have an adult job for the first time. Or at least a job that relates to all the crazy school I went to.
I feel really lucky to work with people who show that they value my contribution in a very tangible way. They didn't have to make this offer, or try to make me happy with what was going on.

cross stitch
Every year for Valentines Day my Grandma would cross stitch a new sampler for my Grandpa. They were always small. A heart. A one or two word saying. I always loved to see what she made. The newest one would always be next to his bed. The others were in a collage in the living room.
She's in a new house now. I haven't ever seen it. I wonder where the cross stitches have all gone over the years? There should be twenty some of them somewhere.
I'm not sure why I've been thinking about this lately. Maybe thinking about the little things that used to impress me so much about them, like the cross stitches, reminds me of a simpler time. A time when I was blissful and ignorant of family politics. A time when I was happy to have a family that loved each other. A set of Grandparents who loved me.
Since Grandpa died, I'll admit I haven't been the happiest girl. I've even thought some pretty mean things. But you know, when it all comes down to it, they loved each other. Life gets hard sometimes, and it isn't easy to understand why people do what they do, but maybe, I'm just supposed to understand that they loved each other.

sometimes
Sometimes I...
really want to play the music loudly
miss my family
am still scared of the dark
watch a movie even though I know it is not worth my time
wish I remembered the wonderful life altering thought I had just before I fell asleep
am thankful my husband is forgiving
actually convince myself to write in my journal
actually do play the music loudly

something going right
I've been in a huge slump lately. I just want to sleep all the time. (Granted a few weeks ago, I probably did need to sleep all the time. I had found a really good book to read, and wasn't sleeping as much as I should.) Last week, while I was trying to figure out how to get out of this sleepy slump, boom, I was asked to play bassoon for some friends, one of my friends who is learning to knit finished her first hat and needs another lesson, and I was again reminded that we need to get the RS knitting/project group back running. I guess I have ample reason to get off the couch, and start knitting again.
I guess now I'm at the whole accountable for the blessings I receive part of life.
